The records show that Essex has had a High Sheriff since Domesday. Up to the mid 16th century, Essex and Herts often shared the role. A full list is held by the Under Sheriff of the County. Lady Ruggles-Brise is the 831st High Sheriff of Essex. She follows in the footsteps of her father-in-law, Guy Ruggles-Brise who was High Sheriff of Essex in 1967.
